King Edward VII School

King Edward VII College would be the oldest English college within the Federated Malay States. It was founded in 1883 and was known as Central College. When the present college developing was completed in 1905, it was renamed immediately after the British monarch of that time, King Edward VII (reign 1901-1910).


King Edward VII College excelled in sports, especially rugby, which was introduced towards the college by TJ Thomas in 1923. In 1933, King Edward VII College beat the Penang Cost-free College inside the initially interschool rugby tournament, creating King Edward VII College symbolic of rugby prowess.


The Second Globe War was a bleak chapter within the school's history, since it was created the headquarters with the Malayan Kempetai. Classrooms had been converted into torture chambers. Life returned to typical when the war was more than, plus the college reopened with an enhanced enrolment. In 1954, King Edward VII college became the initial college inside the district to possess a 6th type, and students in the surrounding area came right here to attend class.
